Uniting Through Sign Language: A Celebration of Inclusion at Vallourec
At Vallourec, we are proud to break down invisible barriers by fostering an environment where everyone can communicate and understand one other, regardless of their differences. In July, we had the pleasure of celebrating the graduation of 33 employees who completed the Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) course.
Starting in April, the training consisted of 60 hours and was designed for professionals in support roles and direct contact with deaf colleagues, including those in production, Occupational Safety, Firefighting and Human Resources.
Participating in the Libras course was an incredible experience! For a long time, I was afraid to talk to my deaf colleagues, even resorting to writing on a piece of paper to ask them for information. Today, I can understand them, and these interactions have sparked my desire to learn all the signs.
This initiative reinforces our commitment to promoting inclusion and effective communication in the workplace.
For Thalita Souza, Human Resources analyst, student and member of the organizing committee, the Libras course also brought great learning: “I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and contribute to the promotion of deaf culture within the Company. The course has been enriching for our organization, effectively fostering diversity and inclusion.“
International Sign Language Day was celebrated on September 23, and the National Day of the Deaf on September 26.
The impact of this initiative goes beyond language skills; it is about building a culture where everyone feels part of the Company. Communication, which once seemed like a barrier, has now transformed into a bridge that connects people and strengthens the bonds within Vallourec. With the prospect of expanding this initiative to other units, we are paving the way for an even more inclusive and diverse future.
Since 2023, we have trained more than 70 professionals in basic Libras. With this, Vallourec reaffirms its commitment to making visible those words that were previously just gestures, ensuring that, in our work environment, inclusion is more than just a goal; it is a reality experienced and shared by all.
