Vallourec Introduces Virtual Reality Tour for Delphy Hydrogen Storage Demonstrator Site

12/02/2024
Hydrogen

Vallourec is excited to announce the availability of a virtual reality tour for its innovative Delphy hydrogen storage demonstrator site, allowing customers and partners to experience Vallourec’s cutting-edge hydrogen storage solution from anywhere.

By combining Vallourec’s experience in hydrogen-resistant tubes and connections with a unique vertical design, Delphy holds the potential to revolutionize the hydrogen value chain. Delphy can store between 1 and 100 metric tons of hydrogen on its site of production or use. It functions using a series of long pressure vessels, made out of pipe assemblies in which pressurized hydrogen is injected to be stored. Pipe strings are housed underground in excavated cavities between 5 and 10 meters in diameter and up to 100 meters deep, taking up to 30 times less surface area compared to above-ground solutions and increasing safety.

The technology demonstrator, located in Aulnoye-Aymeries, Northern France, has been a focal point for Vallourec’s R&D specialists and third-party certification agencies, who have conducted extensive and rigorous tests to validate the technology. Since its inauguration in December 2023, the site has welcomed over 50 clients and partners, all eager to witness Vallourec’s advancements in hydrogen storage technology.

To broaden access and accommodate the high demand for visits, Vallourec has developed a virtual reality tour of the demonstrator site. This guided virtual visit can be accessed from any computer and takes between 1-2 hours. It includes Q&A sessions and discussions on various topics such as safety, security, reliability, maintenance, and cost estimates (CAPEX and OPEX).

Customers interested in scheduling a virtual visit can reach out to their usual Vallourec sales contact or contact Vallourec via the Delphy Hydrogen Storage Solution page.
