The Real Time Monitoring project
"The collection and analysis of data linked to our industrial operations are tools to understand how to achieve continuous improvement," explains Guillaume Sainty, Vallourec Performance Analyst.
These actions constitute one of the bases of the Real Time Monitoring (RTM) module, which is used on the production line, enables real-time data feedback from all equipment.
Reducing the time taken to treat the tubes has had an impact on management of the plant's contingencies, allowing incidents to be detected as early as possible, dealt with efficiently and anticipating their consequences.
Thanks to the RTM project, the teams at Déville can rely on a modern tool which optimizes the performance of the entire line, which is fully in line with Vallourec's digital transformation.The Group has initiated an analysis assess the implementation of this RTM module in other plants. It will be one of the fundamental components of Vallourec's digital transformation.
Application of the Agile method
This is even more important given that the management of this type of project by the IT teams follows the Agile (Scrum) method, a rapid iterative approach which includes the users in the development loop very early on. It allows a solution to be delivered as a working test version, and the functionalities are tested regularly one after another and closely monitored according to the developments of the initial concept.
“As soon as we applied the Agile methods the benefits were clear to see, says Elodie Hinfray, Project Manager at SASP Services, who was in charge of the RTM Project. With the Agile approach, all the people involved in the project feel that they are being listened to and are therefore more motivated and committed. And it allowed us to test each functionality in-situ, which gave us a better understanding of the specific difficulties and at the same time to closely monitor the changes in expectations and to train up the end users.”
