Vallourec presented its innovative solutions at OTC Asia 2024
From February 27 to March 1, Vallourec attended for the first time the international OTC Asia exhibition and conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This key event in Southeast Asia, recognized as Asia Pacific’s largest conference for the energy and offshore industry, welcomed more than 23,000 energy industry professionals from over 80 countries worldwide.
Innovative solutions for Oil & Gas markets
The Vallourec booth provided an opportunity to showcase some of our innovations aimed at enhancing the performance of our customers’ oil & gas operations. For instance, our Pre-Installed Cable Protector (PICP) captured the interest of visitors. Thanks to this innovation, cable protectors can be pre-installed offline in the pipe yard, enabling PICP-equipped pipes to be transported directly to the rig floor. This streamlines the process, making it faster and easier to secure the cables on the rig. The solution contributes to improving personnel safety on the drill floor and saves handling time during running operations. Samples displayed at the booth clearly demonstrated the simplicity and effectiveness of this solution in the field. These live demos were complemented by a technical presentation from Jon Bibby, PICP Business Development Manager, as part of the conference program.
Traditional cable clamping can be particularly challenging, in terms of safety in the red zone and handling time. Attending OTC Asia 2024 was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and explain the benefits of our Pre-Installed Cable Protectors. Our visitors were extremely interested in our solution, and the conversations we had paved the way for future projects in the region.
Other innovations also took center stage at the booth, including our latest VAM® SLIJ-3 semi-flush connection, combined with our CLEANWELL® dope-free solution.
VAM® SLIJ-3 represents the latest generation of VAM® semi-flush premium connections, introducing higher torque and compression capacity for an overall superior performance in ultra-deep offshore environments. Its optimized design improves make-up and provides higher value in HP/HT operations. VAM® SLIJ-3’s robustness was tested with the most recent and rigorous test protocols thus guaranteeing reliability in critical operations.
CLEANWELL® is a non-polluting coating applied in the mill to threaded connections, replacing both storage and running compounds. The use of CLEANWELL® increases efficiency, by providing a “rig-ready” solution, reducing handling operations and associated HSE risks. It also improves protection against corrosion and galling while preventing environmental contamination due to compounds.
Finally, the Vallourec booth was a great opportunity to present our Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) 3D printing technology, that can be used to manufacture large metallic components with no minimum quantity orders and very short lead times. Our Singapore-based teams were on hand to introduce visitors to this technology and detail its operational benefits.
Accelerate the energy transition
OTC Asia 2024 also provided an excellent opportunity to highlight Vallourec® New Energies, our portfolio of solutions supporting the energy transition and promoting decarbonized energy. At our booth, Vallourec showcased solutions for three major businesses: hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCUS) and geothermal energy. During this tradeshow, we introduced, Delphy, our latest innovation in vertical hydrogen storage, to the Southeast Asian market. To address the increasing demand for localized storage solutions close to production sites, handling a few tens of tons of hydrogen, Vallourec is developing its own storage architecture. This allows us to offer customers a comprehensive system, using our pipes and tight VAM® connections. This solution minimizes storage surface footprint, facilitates on-site integration, and reduces hazard perimeters, while ensuring the best safety conditions.
New Energies activities were also included in the technical conference program, with a presentation by Pierre Mauger, Vallourec R&D Expert, on the evaluation of VAM® connections for CCS injection wells. This presentation once again demonstrated Vallourec’s recognized expertise in metallurgy and corrosion.
All these innovations were presented in a dynamic way, thanks to a hologram system providing a 3D view of their functionalities. Visitors particularly appreciated this educational and entertaining animation, perfectly illustrating the features and benefits of these solutions.
A highly successful participation
All agreed that OTC Asia 2024 was a great success and a unique opportunity to engage with customers, prospects and major industry players. Booth visitors praised Vallourec’s positioning as a company focused on innovation and new energies. Vallourec representatives had many interesting discussions with customers and prospects on future collaboration projects.
This first participation in OTC Asia was a success. We were pleased to see so much interest in our innovations, designed to improve our customers’ operational performance. This event provided an excellent platform to make business contacts with major players in our industry, and to identify new opportunities, that will be developed over the coming months.
